So, judging by the recent derailment of the DK Crossbreeds thread, some users here don't seem to be opposed to the idea of moderately or explicitly sexual fanart.

Therefore, I feel obligated to make this thread separate from the general fanart thread for those overly-violent scenes or sexual fantasies that wouldn't be suitable for that thread. Because of this, it may be best that users under the age of 18 not enter this thread, hence the 18+ only restriction in the title.

Now, as far as the posting of links to explicit content, this may fall under the 'unsettling content' rule. This thread may actually fall under that rule. I ask that my fellow mods enter and help me make a judgement call before any discussion begins. If necessary, I'll contact Dave directly and get his input on this.

I will edit this comment once the judgement has been made.

This is a difficult one as I personally think that the definitions are too vague to be of much use and that personal judgement is too unreliable. While it would be a good idea to keep as much of the forum child friendly as possible, Volume One Page Six is a perfect demonstration of how the Dreamkeepers comic is not meant for children and the tone remains pretty much level with gore everywhere.
Because personal judgement is unreliable, it makes it very nearly impossible to define R34 material as unsettling as the judgement varies from person to person. Personally I do not find it unsettling but as I cannot speak on behalf of everyone, I believe this thread should remain closed until a larger and more representative sample can be taken that more accurately describes the judgement of forum users.

I agree, that rule is a bit vague. I think the best course of action is to ask Dave as to what constitutes unsettling material and go from there. He has the final say on what's allowed on here. Maybe he could edit the rules to add clarification for future reference?

Not once did I believe DreamKeepers was meant to be for children. The very first pages tipped that off for me.

I myself don't find R34 unsettling at all. But, it all depends on the opinions of our usership.

I would think that we could leave this thread open and see what everyone thinks about it. In the meantime, I'll be sending Dave an e-mail to see how he feels about this kind of talk on his forum. Considering how quickly the book has become more adult-themed, I don't see him objecting to it quickly.

I honestly could care less if you wanted a thread separate for 18+ art and discussion, I mean whatever floats your boat. Also pretty sure most of us are desensitized to stuff like that anyways to be completely honest.

If you look at how the old forum was run, poronographic or extremely violent material was not allowed. Suggestive art though was allowed as long as it wasn't full on R34. The deviant art group has the same rules.

Here's the post for reference:

Well, in regards to the old forum and its rules, it was shut down shortly after V3's release. V3 offered much more violent and erotic themes compared to the previous two volumes that were released during that forum's service.

As for dA, it's fairly obvious why no porn is allowed in the fan group. Explicit art is a site-wide no-no.

What I'm trying to get at here is that we have a graphic novel full of suggestive themes, yet we aren't allowed to share art of or deeply discuss such themes.

I'm not trying to justify any of this being allowed. I mainly wanted to start this thread in order to filter out such talk from general parts of the forum. The DK Crossbreed thread is a perfect example of how quickly it could escalate.

FYI, I shot an e-mail to Dave. May be a while before we get a response.

I think it's necessary to separate this thread, I'm sure that there are some mems <18 in here.

Not my cup of tea and nothing I care for but,I do feel it worth saying you could do it if you seperate them/upload on FA but,be careful what you do.The Indigoes,Tinsel,and Vi would allow more creative freedom but,don't go doing the same level on Lilith/Namah/Whomever along those lines because it's out of character and a few other reasons to be honest.....Suggestive art would likely be fine but,not to the same level persay....

Maybe it should have a literal age restriction like the ones in DevArt. Though that might be difficult due to the fact not all of us put our age and birth-date in our profile. Another idea would be putting it into another section where there is some sort of a password that only those who read book three, or better yet book four, so that not everyone could get in easily.

As I see it, this series is a comic written by adults for adults, containing suggestive material and violent actions. NSFW material based on those themes seems like something that would naturally appear.

I personally take a lax attitude to it, but still plan on conferring for pieces that could be viewed as a problem.

@ezioauditore97

Now, hold on a minute. I don't think any of us have the authority to say "Don't go doing this" or "Be careful what you do" to artists. They are free to draw whatever they feel like and it's not our place to deny them that, no matter how suggestive it may be.

Mace, Lilith, and Namah have already received the R34 treatment, so it's not like it hasn't been done. As for being out-of-character, I think most R34 fanart or any fanart of anything is like that, anyway. It's really up to the artist if they want to keep a franchise character in-character or not. Not to mention the fact that it's all non-canon unless the original creator(s) say otherwise.

I apologize for the mini-rant, but I just felt like I needed to say this.

@BryanDimmsdale

I like the sound of that idea. Then again, I don't think Dave would be willing to take the time to have the programmers implement such features. We're still waiting for his input/verdict on this, so we'll cross the smaller bridges once we cross the big one.

@MobileCrusader

Exactly. As suggestive as the book is, you've got to expect fans to want to express those themes freely in the community.

When we limit artistic freedom we stifle creative thought. I say let whatever art is made be the discretion of artists.

I've thought a bit about this and my personal opinion is that as long as it the thread is properly tagged and R34 material doesn't pop up out side of those designated thread(s?) or the in the chat room, I have no problem with it.

I approve of this greatly.

If this gets the green light from the Dave himself, then we'll have to keep our eyes open as I'm sure it'll become a field day in this thread and someone may get a little too excited; throwing links around in places they don't belong.
