The second installment in the ‘Monster’ illustration series. In Volume 1, I hadn’t had much of a chance to show any of the characters in a real fight yet, or even vent my interest in monster – drawing fully. This illustration was an outlet for both of those aspirations. The characters are showcasing their various powers in this scene, although the concept for halos hadn’t yet been inaugurated – evidence of the early nature of these illustrations. Another huge white elephant in the piece is the powers the characters are using… They hadn’t yet been settled on when this was made, so not all of them are accurate. Especially Mace’s ‘freezing’ power. At the current point in the story, his power isn’t known for story reasons, but I can guarantee you it won’t be ‘freezing’. Liz noted early on, thankfully so, that it would be incredibly trite to have Mace and Bast as competition for Lilith, while having their powers be “Total OPPOSITES! WHOA!” Fire vrs. Ice has been done so many times in so many places, that I’m glad we opted to pass the cliché’ by for our story.
