An illustration created in late 2005, as the idea for DreamKeepers and the main characters were taking form. I created this image as an experiment, to see if I could take cartoon -styled characters, and draw them using minimal linework, & lighting effects to define the forms. It worked fine, and I’m still pleased with how this one came out. This is an early foray into my affinity for color tinted light sources as well. However, I didn’t want to settle on this as the style to be used in the graphic novels. The detailed rendering and removed lines look interesting, but they also make the illustration look like just that… A static illustration. I think having the lines included in the graphic novel art not only lends more definition to the drawings, but gives them a more animated, less rigid feel. That’s something that I try to keep in mind as I create illustrations, versus story panels in the comic.
